This is a personal project that I embarked on in late 2018. The concept was built around the model who is a close friend of mine. I have always found his androgynous beauty unique, and wanted to celebrate it through a thematic shoot with an overarching storyline. This brought me to the idea of translating Guan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) to a more modern space. Guan Yin as a deity has its religious roots from India - a god named Avalokiteśvara that takes a male form. The representation of both male and female genders from the same religious figure was my source of inspiration. The shoot took place in a hotel room, using a loaned camera and the assistance of my boyfriend and best friend. I have no photography or design experience - nevertheless, I am glad the final results turned out better than what I expected.
